Drop off and Pick up at Thurgood Marshall

Thursday, April 29th, 2021, Volume 15 Issue 87

Please treat Irving Street (the street in front of our school) as a one-way street with traffic flowing from West to East. This will greatly help to reduce congestion. Enter on Irving from 24th Ave. S., drive West on Irving and then turn left onto 26th Ave. S.

Drop Zones: (See color coded picture below) 4th and 5th Grades – Aqua Zone (on south side of S. Irving St. only) - Do not stop at the curve – pull forward to the front of the Aqua Zone. Pre-K – 3rd Grades – Green Zone – In the Parking Lot. Please enter in a single row for student safety. This prevents students from crossing the parking lot in front of off-loading cars. Pull forward as far as you can, all the way to the cutout if there are no other cars in front of you.

Please have children ready to go with coats and backpacks by the time you reach the parking lot, this will speed up the drop off process for all.

Art Submissions (Grades 2-5) for Central Regional Arts Festival

The Central Regional Arts Festival (RAF) is an opportunity to celebrate the innovative arts learning taking place in Central Seattle's K-12 Creative Advantage Pathway. This year, the festivals will be virtual, featuring pre-recorded performances and digital images of visual art. There will be a livestream event on Thursday, May 27th, 6-7:30 pm. Thurgood Marshall will be participating by including a short video of student visual art (grades 2-5). Students will submit their work through Seesaw. Ms. Strand will be compiling the images into a video slideshow. Watch this 2 minute video for more information on how to submit art for the art show: https://app.seesaw.me/pages/shared_item?item_id=item.5c1f6b9f-f028-4b14-9cd0-bee16c05ef87&share_token=5oWg-GrKR-yS9iC8dPHLDw&mode=share The work can be any kind of visual art that can be photographed: sculpture, drawing, digital, photography, design, fiber art, sewing, crafts, stills from a video. It should be an artist’s own work, though it might be something they got help with. One entry per student. Deadline is April 30th. All submissions will be included in the slideshow. For questions, email Ms. Strand: lswhitmore@seattleschools.org

Dear Thurgood Marshall Families, Have you been missing Thurgood Marshall as much as we have this year? We are starting our spring fundraising campaign to raise badly needed funds to ensure the Friends of Thurgood Marshall Elementary can fulfill our budget to fund school supplies, classroom grants, enrichment activities, and our librarian! This year has been, and continues to be, very different and very challenging. But the needs of our community are still here. Our staff and families are putting in an amazing effort to meet the challenges of this year but this year, more than ever, we need your help.

Those of us who are fortunate enough to be in the position to contribute, need to lend all the support we can. If you can make a donation today, please do. And consider if you can donate a little extra for those in our community who aren’t able to donate at this time.

Give today by: · Write a check payable to Friends of Thurgood Marshall Elementary and mail it to: Friends of Thurgood Marshall Elementary 2401 S. Irving St. Seattle, WA 98144 · Donating by credit card - link here.
