Rather than a cohesive article – this week here are some reminders for you:
Field Trip Chaperones
If you are hoping to chaperone an end of year field trip in your child’s class, remember that you need to fill out the volunteer application. Chaperones must be cleared by the district ONE WEEK in advance in order for them to attend the field trip; there are no exceptions.
Complete the Volunteer Application (includes background check)
If you have already completed your Volunteer Application with SPS since September 2018, you can check your status here Application Renewal Process for Returning Volunteers OR email our Volunteer Liaison, Cherese Williams, at cnwilliams@seattleschools.org to confirm status
Students Not Returning
If you are not planning to return to Thurgood Marshall next year for any reason (other than your child is being promoted from 5th grade), please reach out to our office to let us know. You can email cnwilliams@seattleschools.org .
Incoming Kindergarteners
If you know someone who is planning to attend kindergarten at TM next year, please encourage them to register their child with the district as soon as possible! This allows us to invite them to our Mini Kindergarten Jump Start, taking place on August 22 and 23 from 9 AM -12 PM. Registering early also helps us to ensure we have the necessary staffing for our incoming kindergartners, and hopefully saves us from having to reshuffle classes in October when the district re-evaluates class sizes.
We are collecting student devices on, June 22 and 23. Some of our teachers may be collecting devices a bit earlier based on their curriculum and testing dates, so please note any teacher communication on this point. If you are leaving school early, please be sure your child’s device and charger are turned back in. Lost or damaged items are assessed the following charges:
Laptop: $350.00
Laptop Charger: $48
iPad: $250
iPad Charger: $40
2023-24 Enrollment
We are still receiving adjusted enrollment numbers from the district for next year based on the AC Scholars cohort notification, so normally this is when we would be sharing our plans with you for classroom configurations, but we are not quite ready to do that yet. We do not take requests for specific teachers, but if you have a request for the learning environment that your child does best in, feel free to email me with as much specificity as you would like, and we will take that into consideration as we make our class lists. If you know of a new family who is coming to TM, please feel free to let them know that they can request to be in the class of a child they already know at TM to help ease their adjustment.
