Last Pup Press of the 2021-2022 School Year

Thursday, June 17, 2022 Volume 16 Issue 35

It’s hard to believe that this is our last Pup Press issue for the year! If you are coming back to TM next year, you will receive an occasional email update over the summer, but nothing substantial until the welcome back letter in mid-August. We will let you know at this time how you can find out about your teacher assignment. If you have students joining us for kindergarten (or know others who do), please be sure to register your students as soon as possible. This ensures that we will have the necessary staffing to serve our students. You can learn everything you need to know here: https://www.seattleschools.org/admissions/registration .

Please check out the Summer Reading Resource list compiled by our Family Literacy Connector, Trinia Washington. There is hopefully something for everyone on her list.

Students should be reading at minimum 20-30 minutes per day throughout the summer to maintain the reading gains they have made this year.

IXL will continue to be available to your child for math practice. Setting a goal to have your child practice math skills 2-3 times per week will help them to keep their math skills fresh to be ready for the next grade level. If you child is ending the year below grade level in math or reading, it is critical that they continue to practice throughout the summer. We are running Summer Reading Challenge for all our students. Our Library will be open each Tuesday this summer from 4-7 PM beginning this Tuesday, June 21. Please see the goal sheet below or pick one up at the library!

If you are looking for a way to celebrate our newest federal holiday, Juneteenth, check out “The Unspoken Truth” exhibit at the Museum of History and Industry. Learn more here: https://everout.com/seattle/events/unspoken-truths/e118782/

A very big THANK YOU to Ann Mueller, our Pup Press editor this year. She has done an amazing job putting it all together, adding in great graphics and finding additional content relevant to our school community. Thank you also to our FTME Board, who always kept the needs of our school community in mind as they planned for our families and staff. Thank you to our Equity Action Team, who continued to keep the focused on making sure our school is an equitable place for all of our learners and their families. Finally, I just want to thank all of you for another great year of school. This year was challenging for staff and student attendance as the pandemic continued, but we still had the benefit of being together in person and that cannot be underestimated! I really appreciate all the support from our parents – your encouraging words, the appreciation you showed our staff, and all the treats people sent in so that our staff felt your love! You consistently kept us inspired to make our school all it can be and to be sure we are serving the needs of our community. It is such a privilege to work with you and your children. Have a wonderful summer and we will see you back at school on September 7th!

83% of SPS students have received at least one dose of the COVID vaccine and 80% are fully vaccinated (as of 3/31/2022). Vaccination is our most important line of defense against the virus and being vaccinated also reduces the loss of vital in-person instruction time at school. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends COVID-19 vaccination to help protect against COVID-19 and help to prevent severe illness, hospitalization, and death. COVID-19 vaccines are safe, effective, and free.

ANTI-RACISM RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES

As the school year ends, you may want to take time this summer to learn more about racism in our country and explore how you can help dismantle it. If you are overwhelmed by all the possible resources out there on the topic, look no further! The TM Equity Action Team has developed a crowd-sourced Google spreadsheet - ANTI-RACISM RESOURCES FOR FAMILIES - that gives you one place to go to find resources on topics such as Events (upcoming local rallies and marches), Talking with Kids about Race, Resources for Kids, For White Allies, Black History, Self-Care and more. Each topic page is further divided according to media - books, podcasts, videos, etc...

Check it out! Visit and bookmark, add to this dynamic crowdsourced Google spreadsheet, and/or feel free to share this link to others: tinyurl.com/tm equity resources

If you have any questions, please contact the Equity Action Team leaders at equityactiontm@gmail.com
