Spring Assessments

Thursday, June 10th, 2021, Volume 15 Issue 93

This is our second to last issue of the Pup Press for the year! It’s hard to believe we are down to just a little more than a week of school. As we think about wrapping up the school year, here’s a few things you might want to know:

  • 90% of our K-3 students using the SIPPS curriculum made expected reading growth for the school year! If we look at students who attended regularly, that number is close to 100%! This is truly something to celebrate in a year of remote learning. Thanks to our fabulous teachers, instructional assistants, and literacy tutors who all contributed to that work and to you parents who got your student to the right place at the right time! We will continue this work next year in person.

  • Seattle Schools will invest in Seesaw again next year. If you would like to save the work your child has completed in Seesaw this year, you can learn how to archive your child’s work here:

  • One-hour early dismissal on the last day of school, June 18. AM cohorts will still attend from 8 AM-10:45 PM. PM cohorts will attend from 11:45-1:30. Your child’s teacher may reach you to you regarding the schedule for the day.

  • Please remember to return your child’s technology (iPad, Laptop, keyboard, charger, hotspot, etc.). In-person students can return theirs to their teacher any time the last week of school; remote students can return theirs to the office on June 18 1:30-3:30 or June 21 8AM-3PM. If you are leaving town early, please feel free to drop it by the office early. If your child is enrolled in district summer school, you can keep your technology until July 26. If you have another summer learning need for technology, please reach out to me about checking out your tech for the summer.

Next Year’s Staffing: We have two amazing staff members who will be away from TM for a year’s leave of absence: Ms. Shaw and Ms. Whitney. Both will be on exciting adventures – Ms. Whitney will be welcoming her 2nd child and Ms. Shaw will be traveling with her husband and completing her master’s degree. We will miss them next year, but we know they will be back soon! Ms. Dickey, our office assistant, has also let us know that she will be retiring at the end of this school year. She has been front and center with Thurgood Marshall Elementary since 2005! The office just won’t be the same without her. We are losing 3 of our Literacy Tutors who have served our students so well this year. Katie Egolf will be attending Seattle University to become a certificated classroom teacher. She will join Ms. Damitio for her student teaching. Sajal Sanan, new to TM this year, is graduating from college and starting medical school in the fall. Dana Staikides, also new to TM this year, will be off on retirement adventures! Thank you all for your service to our school! Ms. Echols, our Vietnamese Bilingual Instructional Assistant will remain with us next year but will also be doing her student teaching with Ms. Glass through the UW’s Seattle Teacher Residency program. This is our current list of teachers for next year. There still may be changes over the summer months, so please consider this a draft! Youth emceed the virtual events and Creative Advantage teaching artists led youth and families in joyful music, hip hop dance, and poetry activities. Regional Arts Festivals were developed in direct response to student requests for opportunities to showcase and celebrate the arts learning taking place in Seattle Public Schools. The Festivals were made possible through the generous support of the Paul G. Allen Family Foundation, in collaboration with students, SPS teachers, community arts partners, and our long-standing Creative Advantage partner, The Office of Arts & Culture. A special thank you to event manager, Masao Yamada and video editor, Nate Bogopolsky. VIEW THE SCHOOL ART GALLERIES ›
