Thank You Volunteers!

This week I wanted to take a moment to recognize the service of all our fabulous volunteers! We have parents and family members volunteer in classrooms and around our school on a daily basis. Many parents commit to coming to help in a classroom every week, and others pop in when their schedule allows. 

Family volunteers serve on our Friends of Thurgood Marshall Board, planning general meetings, developing a budget plan, fundraising, approving grants, taking legislative action and getting the word out to constituents, organizing events, and writing and editing our school newsletter.

Did you know that the after-school Enrichment Program is completely organized and run by volunteers? There are hours of effort that go into creating programming, setting up the online registration, processing payments, and managing vendors. Additionally, volunteers run some of the classes, including Chess and Ultimate Frisbee.

Parents help put on PTA events, Bingo Night, game and craft nights, dances, and support school events such as Multicultural Night, Backyard Reading Party, and Fifth Grade Promotion.

We are in the home stretch of the school year, and just as we are not done with learning yet, we are not done with our Volunteer Needs! We so appreciate everything you do, and we need you to keep on doing it! Our PTA is looking to fill a number of important positions for next year. Do you think you could be the next great leader? We still need a Co-President! Are you curious about volunteering but not sure how much time you can commit? Come help on our playground at recess! Whether you can spare an hour or a much larger commitment, it takes our whole village of parents to make Thurgood Marshall the great school that it is. Reminder—the district volunteer application needs to be filled out every two years. You can call our office to see if your application is current. If you have volunteered at TM this year, be sure to join us after school on Monday, June 2 at 2:45 PM for our Volunteer Appreciation Tea.
