Monthly Safety Drills

 Thursday, October 8th, 2020, Volume 15 Issue 62

VICE PRINCIPAL Susan Lorow

Monthly Safety Drills

When we are in person at school, we are required to have a monthly safety drill. These include fire drills, shelter in place drills, as well as lockdown drills and even earthquake drills.  The students quickly learn the safety protocols and always do a great job in meeting our expectations.

Next week on October 15, 2020 at 10:15am we invite you to join us (at your home) for an earthquake drill as a part of the Great Washington Shakeout.  There are many wonderful resources on this website. https://www.shakeout.org/washington/

Your child’s teacher will be doing a lesson on earthquake preparedness before October 15th.  Please consider making a family disaster preparedness plan.  Attached below is a graphic from Washington State Emergency Management Division that may be helpful in developing your family plan. Stay Safe!

While all students may be provided free meals through the end of December, it is still critical that eligible families complete the application this fall.

Many students across Washington state rely on school meals to meet their nutritional needs. As the economic impacts of COVID-19 continue, more families are taking advantage of free meals provided by school districts.

School districts across the state are able to provide free meals to all children aged 0–18, or older if enrolled in the K–12 school system, through the end of December 2020, thanks to waivers granted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). However, once the funds run out at the end of the calendar year, many students will still need access to free or reduced-price meals from their school.

Families are strongly encouraged to complete a School Meal Application now, which determines a student’s eligibility for free and reduced-price meals. The application process is simple and confidential. There are no citizenship requirements for participation, and immigration status is not requested or disclosed. Information obtained from meal applications is used to determine student eligibility for a number of school programs. In addition, the information drives funding and supports to schools.

You can complete a school meal application on line here: https://paypams.com/OnlineApp.aspx . Ms. Liliana, our kitchen manager, can also provide you with a paper copy of the application.

Applications can be submitted any time during the school year. Households that experience a change in income due to job loss or other circumstances are encouraged to apply.

Student Verification Form Extension The Department of Technology (DoTs) has extended the Student Verification Form window until Oct.8.  In our remote learning environment, it is important parents/guardians verify their primary contact information and make sure all of the form fields are accurate.  Our district and school-based communication tools are dependent on the accuracy of data in PowerSchool. If phone numbers, emails, and primary contact information isn't reviewed and updated annually we can’t ensure we are reaching all families with critical information.  Parents/Guardians must update their information using the online form in the Source. Directions on how to access the Source and student verification form can be found here. Thank you to families who have already updated their information either through the Source or in their first day paperwork. Seattle Public Schools is recruiting students, families, and community members for the Superintendent's Reopening Plan Task Force for the 2020-21 school year. The task force will monitor the progress, implementation, and effectiveness of the remote learning model and advise the Board and superintendent on possible revisions and continuous improvement.  The deadline for nominations or applications is Oct. 7, 2020.
